Most electricians begin their careers after completing a four-year apprenticeship. Depending on the area of work and specialization, an electrician may do specific jobs.

As an electrician, you are responsible for transmitting electricity from its source to where people and businesses use it. Specific duties vary from area to area but may include
– Perform maintenance to ensure that wiring, lighting, and control systems are in good working order.
Skills and/or qualifications required:
– Ability to read plans.
– Ability to read diagrams and drawings.
– Ability to read electrical diagrams.
– Knowledge of the use of meters and other diagnostic equipment.
– Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Wiring installers play an important role in industrial, commercial, and domestic applications. As the name suggests, these electricians install electrical wiring, telecommunication cables, and fibre optic cables.
They are responsible for the proper functioning of electrical installations. In the event of a fault, they repair the electrical cables and distribution systems.
The work is very physically demanding. High-voltage line technicians who work on high-voltage lines hundreds or thousands of metres above the ground usually receive extensive safety training, including climbing and high-angle rescue training.
Electricians work all year round. Working hours depend on the job. Maintenance electricians usually have a permanent job and work 40 hours a week. Most have regular working hours on weekdays and do not usually work weekends, holidays, or evenings. Some electricians are on call and do their best to solve urgent problems. Inland, cable companies work with low-voltage cables and install them in homes, businesses, and industries. These operators are mainly responsible for the installation and distribution of electricity on construction sites. They are responsible for connecting customers’ electrical equipment to the grid.
